A 32 × 16 ft vinyl-liner pool costs about $80,000 installed at US average prices, within a range of $62,000 to $115,500. In California the same pool is about $93,000, because labor is 18% above the national average there. Add a fence, salt system and lighting and the typical price rises to about $85,700. Running it in the first year adds roughly $680 for chemicals, pump electricity and the fill water.
How the pool cost is estimated
The estimate multiplies the pool's surface area by an installed price per square foot for the type you pick, then adds the extras you tick. Each line is split into materials and labor and scaled to your state: labor by construction wages (BLS), materials by regional goods prices (BEA).
Cost = surface (sq ft) × price per sq ft + extras, each line scaled by your state's labor and material factors
If you enter gallons, the surface is worked out as gallons ÷ 7.48 ÷ average depth: 3.9 ft for an above-ground pool (a 52 in wall filled to the 90% line) and 4.5 ft for an in-ground pool.

Fixr quotes vinyl and concrete for a 12 × 24 ft pool ($35,000 to $65,000 and an average of $60,000 for concrete) and fiberglass for 15 × 30 ft ($70,000 average), so the per-square-foot figures are those totals divided by the pool's area. Because the vinyl and fiberglass prices already contain a heater and deck, the calculator hides those two extras for those types instead of charging twice.
Worked example: 32 × 16 ft vinyl pool
The surface is 32 ft × 16 ft = 512 sq ft. At the typical $156 per square foot the pool line is 512 × $156.25 = $80,000, of which $13,333 is materials and $66,667 is labor. Fixr says materials are only $5,000 to $10,000 of a vinyl job, so labor is about 83% of the price and a high-wage state moves the total more than a high-materials state does. Low and high use $122 and $226 per square foot: $62,222 and $115,556.
Now add a 100 ft aluminum safety fence with a self-closing gate, a salt system and pool lighting. The fence is 100 ft × $25 typical = $2,500 plus a $350 gate (Fixr: aluminum $15 to $35 per foot, gates $200 to $500). The salt system is $1,657 and lighting is $1,163, the averages of the guides listed below. The typical total becomes $85,670.

Where two or three guides price the same item, the low is the lowest low, the high is the highest high, and the typical is the mean of the midpoints. Monthly payment
The payment block finances the typical price minus your down payment at the rate and term you enter. With $10,000 down, $70,000 is financed; at 9% over 15 years that is $709.99 a month. The 9% is an example, not a quote. The Federal Reserve's G.19 release put the average 24-month personal loan at commercial banks at 11.86% in May 2026, but pool loans run longer and lenders price them differently. First-year running cost
Chemicals run $300 to $600 a year, pump electricity $125 to $156 with a variable-speed pump, $300 to $360 with a two-speed and about $600 with a single-speed pump (Royal Swimming Pools, April 2026). Filling costs $60 to $120 for a 15,000 to 30,000 gallon pool (HomeAdvisor, June 2026), about $0.002 to $0.008 a gallon. For the 17,235 gallons of the example that is $34 to $138, so the typical first year is about $677. What the estimate leaves out
Soil, rock and access can change an excavation quote sharply; HomeAdvisor puts the average excavation at $3,400 and difficult sites up to $20,000.
